In this month's mag, SCC did a race between a GT-R and a passenger plane. Top Gear did that same thing a couple of months ago with a Ferrari 612, didn't they?

Well, the comparison is really more toward is air travel faster the driving to a location, not whether the car is actually faster than the plane. I was actually surprised that the race was so close, even though the gt-r was breaking alot of laws in the process.

It's like when one of the bigger magazines like R&T or MT does a drag race between a sports car and a fighter jet- two awesome pieces of machinery in one silly test.

of course it is not legal.. but it is a test most magazines have done at one time or another. I remember R&T or C&D did one with a Ferrari 456 and a cessna. While the Ferrari was faster.. it had to take a more indirect route.. it lost.

I saw one between a Ferrari 612 Scaglietti and a 747, trains, and buses. It was on Top Gear one night, and the editor and two other guys bet that the editor couldn't make it to a Swiss ski resort before they could. Surprisingly, the car won. You should have seen the looks on the two guys' faces.
Speed and power are a mix of mostly three factors: money, motivation, and time. How fast do you want to go and how broke do you want to be when you get there?

I remeber two tests. One was an older MT and it had a C4 Corvette, IIRC driven by Chuck Yeager, vs. a T-34 Talon training jet. The other, an R&T article, was much more recent and it was a sports and tuner car comparo with a Hayabusa and an F/A-18E Super Hornet jet thrown in just for shits and giggles. I don't remember any of the results except the 'Busa whupped most of the cars' asses.

Yeah see I liked those tests. I thought the whole GTR VS jet thing was kinda lame. Personally. Should have been more of a performance showdown. Show all the GTR junkies there IS something faster. LOL!
