Yesterday, two 18 year-old males in Toronto borrowed their parents mercedes and BMW and went street racing, hitting speeds of 140km/h (roughly 75-80mph) in the busy downtown core.

The race ended, however, when one of the boys trashed his car into the driver's side of a cab, killing the cabbie isntantly.

Of course, tonights media coverage said "The racers were most likely influenced or incited by the NeedForSpeed video game series".

That, friends, is ***

Im not one to start rambling on about how games are the scapegoat for everything, but they are.  This is more proof

Well now I dunno about that man. It certainly has an influence. I'm not saying that the game is solely responsible, not by any means, but this is what I was talking about when I was talking about someone taking it for more than entertainment. It could be a bait for some for sure.

Why did they say that NFS was to blame?

The media these days do not have to back up anything they say even though they are not experts in that said field they are speaking of.  All we can do is be good drivers and obey the traffic law...most of the time.

I totally agree.  I do believe that video games do play some part in infuencing the masses, but there is no way in hell its to blame.

Case in point:  I've been playing the Grand Turismo games since they came out as well as the NFS and I do admit, they made damn frustrated I didn't have a car.  I would never have dared street race because I new the risks and I knew my Dad would whip the *** out me if I got a ticket for it let alone crash or kill someone!  If everyone had some damn common sense and good parental instincts we'd never have situations such as that.

Yeah it's been all over my local news (I live about an hour from Toronto where it happened) I think it's just some typical stupid rich kids doing things with out thinking of the conciquences or anyone else. I mean 140km in a 50 street?

These kind of people just... GRR!!! I hope they get the adult trial those guys were pushing. But I doubt they'll get it.

While video games may have influenced them I don't think it's what caused this they are basicly full grown adults almost they should be able to tell what works in a video game almost never works in real life. This was just stupidity.
