I've seen the killer looking ITBs that TWM and others sell for B16 and 18 Hondas. They say for off road use only of course. Question is, anyone ever get a setup to pass emissions, or are these really just for racing?
Thanks, Mike

The emissions inspector will often open the hood, look at the ITBs, look at you, point at the ITBs and go "WTF are those?"

even if they could pass emission if they don't have a fed and crab number one it you will still fail. and yes you can get them to pass emission but you need a stand alone ecu and lots of dyno time.

which is why my fiat will have ITBs.. easier to get a car of that vintage through inspection.

If it says "For off road use only," that's exactly what it is. It's illegal to use them on the streets. You could face a huge fine and you will NOT pass inspection...

honestly, you could probably get them to pass the sniffer test. After all, if you have a Mass Air Pressure style injection system, it does not care if you have one throttle or four.. however, if they pop the hood in your state.. forget about it

It's not a matter of if... It's like standard to pop the hood... Whether you are looking to see if the car has a certain component that the computer is asking for, or you just need to get information. For example, there is a diagram under your hood that tells you a few facts about a few important items under the hood. An inspector looks at that stuff, and the requires "popping" the hood.

If every state had the same emissions tests as California, I wouldn't have asked the question in the first place. But, quite a few states don't conduct physical tests at all. I've never had anyone in Wash open up my hood or seen them open anyone's hood. So, I was wondering if someone in a lenient state has put on ITBs and used them for something other than racing. Since no one has replied yet, ITBs are probably pretty rare.
BTW, I know it's illegal nationally to mess with emissions equipment, but so is speeding...

well, I know in NJ and PA it is not standard practice to pop the hood. Thanks to ORB2, they do not even sniff the exhaust anymore.

In Kansas the inspector checks your lights and your horn. And that's it. Though I'm told you have to have a cat, too. I suppose ITB's would be legal, but everyone I know's too damn broke.

Unless you have, ahem, "good relations," with a local gas station, Mass. law requires the hood to be popped and the cat. converter to be checked during inspection, no exceptions. It's basically following CA's formula.

Yup. Same here in NY. If you break down the work inspection there is "inspect." It's not quite an inspection without the inspecting. :-)

Well in Florida they only inspect the car you use to take your license test, and that's only the lights, horn, visual, and seatbelts. They're really lenient here, there's really no inspections at all. You could drive a purpose built racecar with ITBs, full rollcage and no cat everyday as long as you took your exam in passed.
