One of my friends had a 96 Sunfire GT and had to replace the water pump twice and finally sold iy in 2006 because it was not worth the money to fix everything that was falling apart on it. I was driving an 86 Accord until a year ago and all I had to fix was the CVC joints. Not bad for a 20 year old car that had almost 300,000 kms on it. So that my arguement againts the J-body Hondas and Toyotas will last twice as long with half the maintenance.

I think its funny how you go from blatant stupidity attacking other people cars and when you get a response you turn into the "Everyone is picking at me because I drive a domestic!.." Victim. Then you will post some stories of you beating 80's Hondas on the free way and saying it like you did the impossible. Just STFU your car is OK, cheap, economical, and parts are readily available; but its not the *** as you say "NO non-turbo not supercarged car can touch me...." Yeah when they're in front of you. Try going cone dodging or a road course competiton, it'll settle that big pandering ego of your's.
What does you car even have? (God I hope its not autozone...) and show pictures so we know you're not lying. And write your Forum name and put it in the pictures so we know you just didn't copy and pasted some pics of the internet. Because your ego will do pretty stupid things to make you think you're the ***

hey want to know why the toyota's hondas and mitu's will last longer than an american car is because there r these people in the U.S. who drive theircar off the lot and dont change the oil or grease any thing on them till the sell in two years mean while the the forein cars are taken to the dealer ship at the right intervalls and r babyed for the brake-in period the domestics are beaten by their simple minded owners if this treatment happend to the forgine cars they would die after 90,000 miles so think be4 u say anything about american cars u selfish prick

Wow wow wow... Calm down guys. These Domestic vs. Foreing car talk belongs on a ricer mag like Import Turner or Super Street. Curtman has a point though to a certain extent, but so do you Loroku. Foreign cars like Hondas or others have chrome piston rings which tend to las longer than moly or reluar iron rings, but that does not excuse poor maintenace. I've seen plenty of Hondas, Fords, Dodge, and other sport compact cars with blue smoke coming out of the tail pipe. Poor maintenace can kill any car no matter what it is. Now an old school muscle car has loose tolerances when built (basically meaning it was built shoddily) So you could go some time not noticing one of your cylinders went missing because of some much play that it already has. A foreing car has stronger parts that can withstand a bit more but to an extent so in either case you won't notice until its too late.
In short if you don't take care of your car why in the hell did you buy one in the first place? A car is a car and what people do with them is their business, but when it is just a tool to talk trash, annoy and promp up someone's ego now is when you should "Talk/spit/yell at all his truths." and double flip him off.

hey i was trying to make a point that when new most domestics have been beaten hard and almost no maientence has been done by their owners but with the forgine manufactured cars people are more likely to take care of their cars to the amnufactures specs that was all and i aploogize 4 my angry word i just found it irratating that he would be beating up on the domestics especially the chevys is even from what u guys have said it sounds like there is nothing but contempt for the cobalt as well as the J-bodies also people ANY CAR CAN BE AS GOOOD AS U WANT IT TO BE ITS JUST A MATTER OF HOW BROKE DO U WANT TO BE WHEN U GET IT THERE

On the contempt. Have you read what he said on page 2? If it wasn't for people like him I and many others would say about the cobalt/cavalier, "Meh, it's an allright car." But when ego comes into play and nothing but pride is being said then stupid things start being flung aroud. I like domestics I like the new Cobalt SS, the (old hatchback) focus, and the neon/SRT-4. But again if someone came to me and started talking trash about my car if they owned a domestic I would just go for the usual thing...."well there's your problem and point at the badge."
To put it in perspective 2 days ago I saw an old "aquaintance" stuck on the side of an off ramp with his hazard lights on. I stop (cutting off an audi in the process) and left the car on the side of the road with the hazards on too. I go to him and he says "Start pushing" I just laugh and say "get on my car and we'll bring back a can of gas". After a bit of discussion we do that, but after that, he just goes and does the impossible. He goes "What is this a 1.5?" and I say "yep"
"This is a girls car you know that...." Looking at me with deep concentration --"I'm not on the side of the road am I?"
"My mustang has a 5.0" (what was stuck w/ no gas) I start laughing maniacly and say... --"That thing is *** trash 225hp on a 5.0"
"Nuh uh. It has a stroker!" --"I don't give a *** its still trash"
"Its still better than this piece of *** --"Oh, but can you're piece of *** do this?!"
I hit the gas pedal.
--"Oh no it doesn't have gas...!"
I laugh some more.
"Shut the *** up all Domestic cars are better than foreing!"
--"HA! The mustang is a piece of *** They stopped making the Ford GT, The Viper's allright, and all the Vettes have been boy band garbage until the new Z06!"
Through out the whole argument I just pointed out things that were wrong with the cars he mentioned and never compared them to my or any other car just asked things like "Does it come with a limited slip?" or "Does it have leaf springs?" followed by the word "Trash, it does/doesn't" I never said these car was better or that car, I never said that "well mine has vtec, so it has 500hp" (just that mine saved gas) I know exactly the things that I hate with my Fit which are pretty anoying by the way, so the argument could be if I had another car and some idiot in a pimped out Fit started showing off that it had VTEC.
By the time we reached his car it just hit me that instead of arguing I could've just kicked him out. But at the end I still get my do. I took the gas tank out of the back compartment and while he was rambling about something and walking towards his car and tilted it alittle and spilled some if not a bit of the gas (I paid for it by the way). Our town was about 15 miles away and that thing problably got like 9 miles per gallon the way he drove it. After he filled up, he started the car, and burned out into the freeway flipping me off going at high speed.......Sweet sweet justice.
I saw him by the park pushing his car. The road was empty so I stop the car and turn it off and say "Hey Juan! Can your car do this?!" and I hit the ignition turn it on and leave.
What do we care about other people's cars. If its what they can afford then thats fine. If they get a few perfomance parts well thats a hobby. But there's a fine line between hobby and EGO. If a guy in a kia rio put a replacement K&N filter on his car well he's saving more gas and getting about 1hp out of it -good-. But if he goes and puts a big "K&N" sticker on the side of his car and goes around town reving his engine well -bad-.... If one of your friends came to you in an beat up 82 camaro and said "You like it its has a V8 and it only costed me 300 dollars" You should give them a thumbs up. If instead they went "Yeah american muscle!" Reved up the engine and tried to do donuts You should walk away at a fairly fast pace and try not to look back.
The main problem is that most if not all people who modd cavaliers have an ego problem and try to show off that their cars can beat Hondas. Like if it was our golden standard, but we all know our golden standards are WRX's, Evos, and Zs. As soon as the first comment on a project cavalier showed up on one of the issues it had the comment of "better than Honda" as soon as that was said the argument became null. It didn't say it could be fun, a lot of people who cant afford another car would be pleased....No it had "Its better than a Honda" (I think ) After that no one cared, because it would be just a promp up tool for all those idiots who for some reason harbor some resentment to people who own hondas. Sure we hate those who pimp them out and annoy the hell out of us wiht their mufflers, but there are those who just stumbled upon it and are wondering what mods to put on them. And if they pick a projcet car for the sole purpose of demeaning another one than whats the point?
(wow I wrote alot! )

Ecotecs are pretty stout engines and j-bodies are cheap, but the stock handling was just indisputably sub-par. The Cobalt has (PRAISE THE LORD!!) remedied almost everything, but if the j-body cavalier was on the same technical level as its foreign competitors we wouldn't see 3,000 Altimas, Civics, and Corrolas everyday. I don't want to hate on the j-body for no reason, but I HAVE NEVER SEEN A TASTEFULLY AND EFFECTIVELY MODIFIED CAVALIER in my life. The proof is in the pudding. GM makes better and better cars these days, but the last gen Cavalier is a great example of how mediocre and lax the American auto industry had become. Im going to stop writing before I have to find one and burn it to the ground in the name of automotive darwinism.
