Stupid people the first turbo car in 1961 the cutlass Turbo jet was the first production car in the WORLD TO EVER RUN A TURBO . Second americans Developed the turbo you know and love today (look up history of Garret company . Turbos were attempted by American Auto makers, yet never took off as in the 60s with the first compact sport car the GT corvair rear engine full independent supension turbo car (Yenko raced and won international races with this car and over shadowed PORSCH cars, Then some GERMAN wrote a book called unsafe at any speed about the Corvair and GM loss sales and stop production of the car.(note PORSCH Today runs FULL independent supension , rear engine and turbos when GM did it first ). GM and ford made attempts in the 70s and 80s with zero to no success only succesfull american car with turbo was the RS ESCORT ford in the 70s/80s/90s (first production 2 liter to run 13s out the box note 14 years before the first evo or wrx sti ever did this) .GM currently still producen turbo cars in the GXP solstice 240 hp 2 liter engines which dominated SCCA last couple years in there class. Butt GM and ford know something about turbo cars they leak like a sith with oil seals etc also why build exotic four cylinder cars when a small block v8 will do it for six time less the cost and all day long with no turbo lag.(This was when gas was less than a dollar in america Mentality) History lesson on domestic Turbo cars look up , TURBO JET CUTLASS, GT CORVAIR, BUICK GRAND NATIONALS, MCLAREN MUSTANG, SVO TURBO MUSTANG, DODGE LANCER, DODGE DAYTONA SHELBY TURBO(INTRESTING NOTE ABOUT THIS CAR rent the 1987 movie [WRAITH], OPENING SCENE HAS A V8 BLOWN RACEN A TURBO FOUR CYLINDER . ALSO one last thing turbos are non postive displacment power adders as in turbos make 8 psi at the turbo and only 6 psi make it to the intake . Blowers are postive displacment as in 8 psi at the blower is 8 psi at the intake also blowers have no turbo lag or obnotious oilines to run or intake pipen to build . There are 8 to 10 thousand hp push rod blower motors in the world but only 2 thousand hp over head cam turbo motors . Proof is in the results . OH actualy the first person to ever put a turbo on a car known in world history was adolf hitler on his limos its in a museum in CANADA far as I know. Though ive recently read something that contradicts it but want say with out the article in front of me.

oh sorry for laughing but are you serious? Did you just waste your time typing that to say americans were the first to have turbines? or "turbos"...whos arguing and who cares? I get it...you can get more power out of a bigger motor. I think your getting the wrong idea bout everything. To save yourself some embarrassment, i would just keep that kind of stuff to yourself. It makes you seem unintelligent.

You're *** stupid right? American cars sucked at the technological achievements of forced induction. First that car you aforementioned probably was either carbureted or had mechanical injection (most likely carbureted.) Which meant either it detonated like crazy or with mechanical injection tunigh potential was very limited at best. Cars that didn't make it were the mustan 2.3 turbo (which was just a modified Tempo engine since the computer parameters are all in the same place in ford Comps.) and the Buick grand national which had major reliability issues. Both cars sucked big time at achieving the true potential of forced induction because they did not have true EFI, so don't tell me a 60's car is gonna be built better than lets say a post 96 modern automobile. And what you're saying "American Cars are better!" Which is what you're really trying to say... Look at GM's and Fords Stocks and there's your answer, Chrysler well that fully defines you're answer.

turboMITSU Although I would not agree with the general premise of his post, GODSPEED has his ducks straight as far as early American turbo cars hes mentioned and their significance. If we wanted to get serious about a discussion about turbos (and you came to class prepared) you'd find that the first mass produced turbos were made in America by General Electric and later by Garrett/ Honeywell.. Ill NEVER SAY that America has done turbo-charging better than anyone, but America was indisputably the first to mass produce the tech and use it to its full advantage in an industrial application. Proud of the red white blue right now.

Oh i understand he might have his facts straight or w/e but bottom line is who *** cares? I mean seriously did you get done readying that and feel that much smarter and that much more intelligent about automobiles? I sure didn't. All i was really meaning to say was he posted a thread about something that virtually no one is going to care about, just to type hundreds of more words then he needed to to stress an opinion, "Hi, I'm a jack-ass and I would just like to start off by saying I love America, Americans, and the cars and turbos they make 'cuz daddy said that foreigners cain't do nothin right!"

You didnt really have to quote the whole rant verbatim. After his skyline GT-R crash post reply, I cant defend the guy. But saying this
"Hi, I'm a jack-ass and I would just like to start off by saying I love America, Americans, and the cars and turbos they make 'cuz daddy said that foreigners cain't do nothin right!" kind of puts you on that same level man.
and no I didnt read the whole thing either.

Rember people GM and FORD did get it right note the times they posted with there forced induction cars over 20 years ago will hang with any of the turbo compacts or six cylinder cars of today. Take the GNX Buick grand national it posted 13s in the the 80s when and did this with single turbo set up the 300zx ran twin turbos and were plastic front clip cars compact and low to the ground and the buick Predates the 300zx by almost 10 years(NOTE THE 350Z , RX8, S2000 , AND WRX STI STILL ONLY TOUCH WHAT GM DID IN THE 80S). Now Ford had the 2 liter COSWORTH pulling 13s in the RS escort back in the 80s and note this is 14 years before the first asain car ever did this . All AUTOMOTIVE WORLD TECHNOLOGY CAN BE TRACED BACK TO TWO PLACES GM AND FORD. Take the rotary engine for instance GM bought the rights and patents to this engine back in the 50s . GM fully redevelped the engine for the corvette which they achieved over 600 hp from the motor in a three rotor set up . GM was suppose to put the motor in the 1970 corvette but the car couldnt pass emission so gm had to go with the other big block L88 engines . All manufactures Ford , GM , and dodge experimented with this motor and all came to the same conclusion they eat more fuel than a big block v8 and dont make near the torque, Note you never see any rotary engine put in a car over 2500 pounds . Ford does currently have rights to rotary engine based on the 1970 gm rotary designes they use for one of the mazda vehicles today. (40 year old engine designe used in 2008 lol). FORD OWNS MAZDA . ELECTRONICS. lets argue this. All electronic technology in the world today can be traced back to one place SILICONE VALLEY. NOTE ON YOUR 80S 5.0 MUSTANGS , BUICK GRAND NATIONALS ETC ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS BY A REPROGRAMMER TO UPDATE THE ECM , THIS IS NEW TECHNOLOGY FOR THE *** WORLD WHY IS THIS . E E P O M CHIPS. SILICONE FIRST. THE ASAIN ECM AND GERMAN ECM TECHNOLOGY TOOK A BIG JUMP IN TECHNOLOGY RECENTLY WHY IS THIS AND HOW? THE US GOVERMENT MAMDATED THAT ALL CARS SOLD IN THE USA MUST HAVE OBDII ECM TECHNOLOGY. SO IN OTHER WORDS AMERICA JUST GAVE THEM A UPDATE CUASE THERE TO STUPID TO CATCH ON. DONT WORRY THERE ARE TONS OF STUPID AMERICANS THAT BUY *** CRAP ALSO THAT ACT LIKE YOU LOOK LIKE YOU ETC. WHILE WERE ON THE SUBJECT FIND OUT WHAT WAS THE FIRST COMPACT TO MAKE AFTERMARKET PROGRAMMERS. YOU WILL HIT THE COMPANY OF SUPERCHIP AND HYPERTECH, WHAT CAR DID THEY SELL PRODUCTS TO FIRST, BUICK GRAND NATIONAL A 13 SEC STOCK OUT THE BOX TURBO SIX CYLINDER CAR.

OH CAR AND DRIVER DID A ARTICLE A FEW YEARS BACK I THOUGHT YOU WOULD LIKE TO KNOW ABOUT, CALLED THE STREET TUNER CHALLANGE. It had the best compact tuners in the world assemble cars and all were side by side tested to find out who was best handeling etc. Then they compared that to a bone stock 40 thousand dollar corvette and found out the corvette lap times were 1.5 seconds faster stock new with warranty. Note the WRX sti is a 30 thousand dollar car 10 grand more corvette better handeling and faster.

Maybe we can get Godspeed's screen name changed to "God help us" lol.
"Ford does currently have rights to rotary engine based on the 1970 gm rotary designes they use for one of the mazda vehicles today. (40 year old engine designe used in 2008 lol). FORD OWNS MAZDA . "
You need to look up the history of the rotary engine. It's true that many manufacturers were experimenting with the Wankel design in the early 60's, but Mazda's successful rotary family is not a GM design. And FYI Mazda rotary engines were in production long before 1970. Not to mention that 1. the current rotary (Renesis) is a new design, very different from the original Mazda rotary, and 2. piston engines (including the SBC) were in production well longer than the 40 years you are so eloquently trying to LOL at.
You strike me as a real beer-n-hotdogs kind of a guy. You wouldn't know something better if it hit you square in the face.
