I just read Jay's announcement in appendix J, & all I can think about is where I can get my hands on every back issue from before my subscription started in '99.
My first post on this thread was when this was supposedly just a rumor. I know immediate action on my part (short of buying the mag out - ha) wouldn't have done anything to help SCC, but as another reader said, I could have at least driven out & bought the staff a round of drinks. It's sad to think that at this late hour their office is more than likely cleaned out & dark, each going their separate ways.
Another emotion that surfaces is anger. Anger not towards the parent co. (where business is business & nothing can change that) but anger about the lack of feedback/support RIGHT HERE. Seems like about 20 of us with anything to say & only 2.5 pages on this thread at this point... Where's the rest of our legions of car nerds that I know will miss this publication as much or more than me!!

As Jay eludes to in the farewell issue, each contributor will find an outlet for their greatness elsewhere, & I for one will be scouring the web monthly for each of their names in the hope they find work quickly.

Yeah, 2nd that Master Shake...
Having never actually read Modified I can't say how off base the statement is, but, uh one glance the cover is all I think I need.

SCC tech articles always got me thinking, which is a good thing for a magazine to be able to do, and often reading them twice to help me understand the technology/terminology. It will be missed.
As far as "Modified" is concerned, I've seen it on the stands and never picked one up. Whatever was on the cover always seemed more "bling" than go. It never interested me.
Having just signed up for another 2 yrs w/SCC, and only receiving 2 issues of that subscription, I think I'll just cancel the rest.
As I've said before, I wish only the best for the SCC staff, and hope to be seeing their insight in other publications.

Shocked...thought I was having a bad dream, still can't accept it. I really cant believe that scc is folding. I will admit I buy sport compact, modified and super street and project car at the wal-mart each month, despite how much I would save by subscribing I have always done it this way, 5 or 6 bux per mag at the store. Sport compact was the very first one I picked up back in early 1989. I really try and read them all just to get a wide variety and keep up on everything. Sport compact was always my favorite and i always desribed it as the "educated mans" sport compact car reference magazine. It was the magazine that didnt treat readers as idiots and always braved to write articles and how tos and how it works articles leaning to be read by real gearheads looking for every last drop of information. Just look at Dave Colemans great articles over the years teaching us things we never knew and may not be able to use or even not be able to comprehend without 3 readings. He is my hero and I hope he continues writing for another magazine. I still cant believe after 20 years there will be no more sport compact at the newstand...its just not right. If a quality magazine like this can fail it is scary what might be next to fall...a world without dave and sport compact, what will happen to the kids growing up with just modified and super street? Will they revert back to the original fast and furious days? Wild and slutty overdone body kits and 6 inch muffler tips shooting flames? I am scared!

Its sad news indeed.  I have pretty much every issue from 1990 up to 2009, I guess they are collectors items now...

If you think the magazines will be collectors' items, just look at this gem:

It's sad when I guy has to sell the shirt off his back, but when he already has no pants its just pathetic...

I think this clearly explains why SCC perished..."SIM's readership represents the largest penetration of the prized 18-34 year old male demographic of any magazine group." I bought my car with the mods of an 18 year old; 18" chromies and 12" subwoofer only to find myself mounting the stock wheels and removing the subs to return the car to stock form. Surprise, my car handled better and was a hair lighter. I'm 36 and apparently us old guys just didn't penetrate hard enough to keep our tech-heavy mag.
On a side note, did you notice how many titles SIM has for Mustangs? Why kill SCC when they could've nixed 1 of 4 mustang issues.

MODIFIED MAG???? WTF???  SERIOUSLY?  MODIFIED MAG??????

.....REALLY?

Let me read the same *** that EVERYOTHER MAGAZINE on the face of this planet publishes, it goes like this:

Joe mama bought car x. he quickly started fixing it up. he put in a turbo then blew it up. Joe mama was mad so he headed to some terrible tuning shop to have them build him a new motor. Joe mam used jagg-off rods and pistons. Now he feeds his motor 90psi of boost and has the fastest car in the world!

HOW BORING!!!!!!!!

Or im reading an article about a car that cost more than a house would to build. who has that money and seriously can take that car to an autocross or track day unless you obviously are trying to compensate for something.

I was diggin all the new articles on track day events and auto crossing! i cant get enough! now its WAY BACK TO DRAG RACING AND DRIFTING. THE TWO MOST USELESS FORMS OF MOTOR SPORTS NEXT TO NASCAR!

BRING BACK SCC!!!!!  PLEASE WE ALL BEG YOU!!!!

if its really because more people wanna read about mustangs or to see how many tvs and subwoofers and rediculous stickers someone can put all over their car and windshield. then its true.

the world is full of dousche bags, and there is nothing we can do.
